Windows 10 Features |
Windows 10 is Microsoft’s upcoming operating system, chiefly
aimed at users who’ve had enough of Windows 8. The main thing this OS is set to
do is drag the traditional mouse-and-keyboard users back in. But the company
promises mobile device users that it meanwhile is not giving up on touch.
There’s still going to be the Charms and the rest, but this won’t be panning
out like Windows 8 did. Maybe that’s what prompted the strange nomenclature.
Anyway, seeing the free Windows 10 download they’re offering
for tryouts – the tech preview – we know we’ll be seeing the following.
The Start Menu
Users have been clamoring for this ever since Microsoft
scrapped it from Windows 8, and that’s a major reason behind the OS not hitting
it out that well. With the Start menu making a comeback, older Windows
customers have something familiar to hold on to. The new version looks a lot
like the Start menu in Windows 7, with the addition of a live tile screen on
the right side. They’ve let out plenty of images of this, so you can check
those out before installing the preview.
Better Task View
They’ve done away with the problematic Task Switcher and
brought in a Task View option, letting you switch between multiple desktops.
About time too, because most users, especially novices, don’t use the Alt+Tab shortcut instead.
Shortcuts for Command
Prompt
They’ve keyed in keyboard shortcuts for command prompt. One
thing people hadn’t been able to do before, was paste their commands the same
way they would elsewhere. Now they can, and that’s really useful.
Continuum
This is what they’re calling the automatic adaptability that
this OS comes with. If the Windows 10 OS detects the lack of a keyboard, it
switches to the touch interface all by itself.
A reinvention of the modern apps in Windows 8, these
applications can be run on multiple devices including phones, tablets and
desktops. There’s also just the Windows Store to get these from, to avoid any
confusion which might occur otherwise.
Business and
Enterprise- friendly features
The new Windows OS comes with a bunch of features for
enterprise use, such as provisions for corporate data storage and protection.
You can also avail Mobile Device Management on all devices.
This is what currently the Windows 10 download has in store
for you. There’s no saying what else will make it into the offering when the
final release is out.
