Windows 10 OS |
The release of the Windows 10 Technical Preview is creating much
excitement, though not always in a positive way. The Internet lit up over the
past few days with rumors that the Technical Preview of the Windows-10
operating system has a built-in keylogger that was spying on the testers. The
question is, does Windows 10 operating system really have a keylogger in it?
Yes, but it has not been planted there to steal website credentials or the bank
card numbers, but if you have installed software and operating systems like
Windows-10 before, you will know exactly why it is there.
The keylogger is placed in the operating system to gather
information that will help Microsoft find out what is working and what is not
in the preview version of Windows-10 OS. This will help fix bugs in Windows
Search or anywhere a text input box pops up. This will help Microsoft improve
features like auto correction and spellchecking. Is it scary that Microsoft is
watching everything the user types in the Windows Technical Preview? To some,
obviously. However, you should understand that the Technical Preview is not
meant for daily computing or any jobs that involve sensitive data.
This preview is exactly what Microsoft said it is, an
unfinished operating system that they need help testing. If you are willing to
test this unfinished operating system, you are willing to have your usage
analyzed. If you have read through the End User License Agreement (EULA)
before, particularly one for a piece of software that is still a work in
progress, you will be knowing that this is something companies do. Microsoft
did not hide the fact that they were going to do the same with the Windows-10
Preview also.

Microsoft has specifically stated that even personal
information can be gathered. They told The Register that they “Will continue to
share information through our terms of service and privacy statement about how
customer data is collected and used, as well as what choices and controls are
available” as the release of the Windows 10 operating system approaches. This
means that the users have two choices. Keep using technical preview of Windows-10 and share your data with
Microsoft, or you may shelf it until the full version of the operating system
is released next summer. It seems that Microsoft is not going to turn off data
collection because of sensationalist blog posts.
