According to sources close to Microsoft, the successor to Windows 8 i.e. Windows 10 will be having a plethora of useful and advanced options. It can be said that Microsoft has this time focused more on making Windows 10 a user-friendly OS version than just an advanced one like Windows 8 or 8.1. The most striking aspect of the operating system is the inclusion of the Start Menu, which itself has already made a large number of users to eagerly wait for the Windows 10 release.

Microsoft clearly knows that by launching a mere advanced OS version, the company won’t be able to retrieve its large customer base who had either shifted to other operating systems or are happy using older versions like Windows 7 and XP. The Windows 8 debacle was a setback for Microsoft and its position in the tech field, as several new competitors started to pose stiff competition to the software giant in the market.

It has been more than two years since Microsoft launched Windows 8 into the market. Although the operating system was released with much fanfare by emphasizing on the fact that it was the most advanced OS available at that time, Windows 8 was eventually dubbed as a failure. The main disadvantage of Windows 8 was that it lacked several basic features like the ones in Windows 7 and XP that had made users root for such versions earlier. Most importantly, the non-availability of Start Menu and the presence of two interfaces made several users confused about running their systems. Many users even called up the Microsoft tech support team to know how to turn off their systems. Eventually, a large number of users dumped Windows 8, thereby affecting Microsoft’s business prospects to a great extent.

Looking at the Windows 10 preview, one can say that the software giant has finally understood the reason why the prior version was a unanimous failure. Yes, Windows 10 comprises of several useful features and as mentioned earlier, the most prominent option is the Start Menu. The Start Menu has been reintroduced in a new avatar. The Windows 8 elements are not totally removed as remnants of it manifests in the Start Menu slides.  

  

The new Task View for multitasking

Multitasking is obviously one of the best features in Windows. Now, the Redmond based software maker has introduced something, it is calling Task View for making it even more enhanced and useful. The great thing about this new feature is that it will display all of your currently opened applications.

In the task menu, Windows 10 will be supporting the newly added capability for viewing multiple desktops. This new feature will enable you to toggle between different desktops. Moreover, in each desktop, multiple applications can run.

A Look At Windows 10 For Phones

Microsoft released the phone version of Windows 10 preview recently, and made it available for free using the Windows Insider app. But don’t get too excited; this is still supported only on a handful of phone models.

One of these is the Lumia 830, and so we tried out the OS on that. First thing checked was the Start screen of course, because there’s no Start button in the Windows 10 phone version. Here everything is pretty much the same as in Windows Phone, except now you have two new tile sizes added to the mix. This makes layout customization a dream, using the single and double height tiles.

The background management has got a few modifications as well. In the older OS, you had a theme color which could be adjusted to transparency settings, and see the parallax scrollable background image. In the new iteration, you have a stationary image and translucent theme colors. It bears noting that the older settings were better to look at.

There are also changes in the All Apps view. The background stays pale to avoid legibility issues, plus you now have a "Recently Installed" area near the top, which lists the newest installations. One problem we noticed – hopefully it’ll be fixed before the final build arrives – hitting "back" at All Apps screen doesn’t take you to Start.

The other change is apparent when you long-press an item inside the app view. You notice that the context menus are different from before, in that they have larger fonts while taking up less of the screen. But frankly it looks ridiculous compared to what they put in Windows Phone 8.

Notifications have a handle which looks like an option to expand them, although this seems to be useless in the Windows 10 preview. The Quick Access area has around five items, but there are glitches in the visuals.

Settings were another point of weakness in Windows Phone 8, with a seemingly indefinite list of items listed in no discernible order. That hasn’t changed here, although they seem to have at least imposed some sort of grouping method.

No matter how good it all looks on the surface, the deeper you go, the more problems you’ll see. Apps have the same type of unrelated options listed close by, and random capitalization among these. Some of the apps use a different visual style, while others seem to have been picked directly off the older OS. This is clearly a very early OS Build version.

• Look for the latest VirtualBox version and Install it in the computer.
• Open the application. Click on the New button in the window in order to create a virtual machine.
• As the first step, provide a Name for the operating system. Select Windows 8.1 from the list. You would not find Windows 10 in the list as it has not been installed yet.
• Follow the onscreen instructions in order to install the virtual machine. You need not worry over the settings, as the default setting would be more than enough to move ahead.
